Ministry of Agriculture Encourages Replication of its Mainstay Program in South Oku District

The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) continues to increase the capacity of agricultural human resource development through its flagship programs. Among them is the Integrated Participatory Development and Management of Irrigation Project (IPDMIP).
Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) said that the IPDMIP Program aims to realize national food sovereignty that prioritizes the progress of the agricultural sector, and improve the welfare of Indonesian farmers.
“In its implementation, the learning process is delivered by agricultural extension workers to farmers through Field Schools (SL) with various other agricultural extension methods. Among them are tool demonstration, inter-village agricultural counseling, monthly meeting, training, and others,” said Syahrul.
Syahrul emphasized that IPDMIP succeeded in convincing the farmers to apply the recommended technology. Such as planting technique with jajar legowo method which is perfected with the use of quality seeds, biological pesticides, the application of environmentally friendly fertilization techniques. In addition, there is also balanced fertilization and irrigation techniques. The applied technology has been proven to increase the productivity of rice farming, he said again.

In an effort to see the extent of the program's success in South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, the Head of the Agricultural Extension Center (Kapusluhtan), Bustanul Arifin Caya and his staff made a working visit to South OKU Regency, South Sumatra, Friday (08/09/2023).
During his visit, he was received by the Regent of South OKU, Head of the Agriculture Office, Head of BPKAD, Regent II Expert Staff, and Head of the Agricultural Extension Division of the Food Crop Agriculture Office of South Sumatra Province.
Bustanul conveyed his purpose to South OKU Regency to meet and dialogue with the South OKU Regent and his staff. This is intended to obtain comprehensive information on the positive impact of the IPDMIP program from the policy level to the implementation of the program in the field.
“We hope that after the IPDMIP program ends, IPDMIP activities can be replicated and continued so that farmer empowerment, production and productivity and farmer welfare can increase,” Bustanul explained.
Furthermore, Bustanul said that Ministry of Agriculture in 2023 also intervened for the organic fertilizer use program through SL activities of Pro Organic Farmer Movement (Genta Organik) in 102 sub-districts involving 1,020 farmer groups.
